The Race to Find Longitude - Burrell Observatory Lecture

Dr. Edwin Meyer, Associate Professor of Physics at Baldwin Wallace University presents: The Race to Find Longitude: The competition between the astronomers and the clock makers to find longitude at sea.

This lecture addresses one of the great challenges of the 18th century; the determination of longitude at sea. The nation that succeeded would dominate militarily and trade. To do so required accurate time keeping. The astronomers pursued a method using the heavens while the clock makers strove to perfect the clock.

After the lecture, the Burrell Observatory will be open for viewing, weather permitting.
